Mustang Owners Club of Austin

We attended the Mustang Owners Club of Austin 31st Annual Mustang and Ford Roundup this past Saturday. It was held on the grounds of Great Hills Baptist Church in the Arboretum area. I didn't realize it until later that the lens on the old camera had a smudge on it, so I apologize for some of the pictures not being all that great. And if you'd like to see more pictures from the show, be sure to check out the Car Shows Page for more.

Street Cup Stacking

I'm sure you've all seen the videos with the kids who do the cup stacking or speed stacking.  While those are all good and fun, I thought this was even better.  Enjoy.

Google+ Invites

We got invited onto Google+ yesterday and have been playing around with it.  We don't do the Facebook thing, so we can't compare or contrast the two.  But so far, Google+ looks interesting.  If you'd like an invite, just let us know.

King Moving Services

Dixi and I moved last weekend.  We were dreading the entire ordeal because of past bad experiences with moving company's.  But after hiring King Moving Services, we won't be using anyone else ever again.

We had received several bids for the job and all seemed to be pretty expensive for the amount of furniture and boxes that needed to be moved.  Then I came across Erin Thomas, and Dixi and I will be telling people about him  any time we hear about someone moving.

We had him scheduled for 9am on Saturday.  I explained that we had a 3 hour window in which to get everything moved.  Erin and his helper Ty arrived a few minutes before 9 and had a look around to see what all we had, and then got straight to work.  They even brought their own dolly's and furniture pads.  To our amazement, they had just about everything loaded within an hour and a half.  They were extremely polite and efficient throughout the entire time.  They even had the truck unloaded in just under an hour!  And the best part - NOTHING was damaged in any way.

A long time ago I was in customer service training at Dell.  One of the things they showed us was a statistic on customer satisfaction.  I don't remember the actual numbers involved, but it basically said this:
If you provide good customer service, the customer will tell 5 people over a period of 3 years.  But if you provide bad customer service, the customer will tell 15 people over a period 2 years.
Again, the numbers probably aren't correct in that statement, but the general concept is there.  And Erin Thomas provided EXCEPTIONAL customer service.  I would recommend him and his team to anyone looking to hire a moving company in the Austin area.

These are the gentlemen that moved us.  Ty on the left, Erin Thomas on the right.  If you're moving and looking to hire someone, these are the guys to hire.

ROT Rally Parade

The ROT Rally Parade was this past Friday night. Congress Avenue was shut down from 11th Street all the way down to Cesar Chavez. Evidently the bikes were running a bit late, and since we had prior plans, we didn't get to see the bikes show up. These vehicles made the rounds 3 times. After an hour of waiting after these vehicles came through we had to leave. Maybe next year...

Dumbest. Thing. Ever.

Dixi and I both have tattoos. But this is just too stupid for words, in my opinion.

EDIT: Turns out, it was all a lie and nothing but a publicity stunt.

Wordpress Orange Button

Go to Wordpress.
Place your cursor over the big orange button that says "Get started here".
Look at the referral.

Or just look in the lower left corner of the screen capture I got earlier.

Now that's funny.

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day to all!

Dixi and I have been searching for a new place to live, as we are tired of this apartment. It's a bit too small for us and we just want something nicer with a few more amenities. We've been looking for the past month and aren't having as much luck as we would have liked. With everyone seeming to be moving to the Austin area, rents have skyrocketed. And finding something that will actually be available is bordering on ridiculous. We were hoping to move closer in to where Dixi's office is, but it's starting to look like we'll wind up moving further out! Add in the factor of having had a major hiccup with our credit a couple years ago is making it even worse. But I'm sure we will find something.

Randy "Macho Man" Savage #ripmachoman

We're not big fans of wrestling in general, although Dixi does tend get a bit more talkative whenever she sees The Rock or John Cena on TV. I don't have alot of memories of Randy "Macho Man" Savage, but it's still sad to hear of someone passing away as young as he was.

3 @Postcrossing Postcards

We were out and about this past weekend so didn't get around to checking the mail until today. But it turned out the be a wonderful trip to the mailbox with 3 postcards through Postcrossing.

The first card came from Canada and features a wood carving of Tecumseh. The second postcard is from Vilnius, Lithuania and shows a view of the Vilnius University courtyard and St. John's Church. The third postcard is of Mt. Ranier at Mt. Ranier National Park in Washington.

Anniversary & @Postcrossing Postcards

Dixi and I received 3 postcards in the mail yesterday. The first one was from one of our oldest and closest friends. The other two were via Postcrossing.

From 10th Anniversary

This card came through Postcrossing and, in part, reads:
Happy 10th Anniversary!
Please consider Iowa for your next romantic get-away. Ok - maybe not. Pigs and corn are more 5th anniversary if you ask me. Hold out for Hawaii Dixi!

From PostCrossing

This card also came through Postcrossing and was mailed on April 20, 2011. Kiron, the sender, also used glow in the dark stamps!

Osama Bin Laden Dead

We awoke this morning to the clock radio and the news that Bin Laden has been killed.

I can remember exactly where Dixi and I were on that morning almost 10 years ago. I can remember what we were doing. I can remember things we said, word for word. It has to be one of the most surreal moments of my life.

I'm glad it's done. I'm glad he's dead. I'm a bit saddened that it took 10 years, but better late than never. I think this first tweet from @seankent sums up my feelings perfectly. The others I thought were worth mentioning.

The first is Notes From Underground, which you will find over there on the right in our "Stuff We Read". He also writes movie reviews on Netflix Stream. Both are well worth checking out.
