Arguendo translates to "for the sake of arguing". Dixi translates to "I have said all I had to say and the argument is settled".
Usually, she wins. This should be interesting.

States We Have Visited
I came across this at egpSoft and thought it was kinda interesting so I made us a couple of maps.
The first one is Dixi's map.
And this is Arguendo's map.
Dixi and I have both been to Mexico. The last time was back before the passport requirements went into effect. We decided one weekend that we wanted mexican food for dinner. So we headed down to Reynosa to eat at La Mansion Del Prado. We haven't done anything like that in quite a while, but hope to again one day soon. If you ever make it to this restaurant be sure to have them make you a Mexican Flag after your dinner.
I've made into Canada once. I went just across the border and saw Niagara Falls from the Canadian side, and that's as far as I went.

Dumb Tattoos
Can anyone explain this kind of thing to me? Evidently some rapper named T-Pain(?) had the Facebook 'like' button tattoo'd on his arm. What's he going to do when Facebook goes the way of MySpace, GeoCities and TheGlobe? I have a feeling that this is going to be irrelevant and probably covered up in less than 5 years as something new will definitely come along. Not only that, but it's even spelled wrong. Where is the apostrophe in "don't"? Think that would qualify him for a refund?
But then again, there's always the folks that get a tattoo of their idol. Although I'm sure I've seen pictures of Britney Spears lately and she doesn't look like that anymore. Of course, she's been know to go off the deep end from time to time so with any luck this may actually be her look again. Literally. And the proud owner of this tattoo may need to go back into the ink shop soon. Last I heard Britney has a couple new tattoo's, one of which is on her neck. So this guy may need a touch up.
And then there's this guy. Now I like chicken as much as the next guy but even this is taking things a little too far. I'm also wondering if he's actually a Cajun? And is he as lucky as David Letterman with his "Biscuit for Life" card or Beyonce Knowles with her "Chicken for Life" card? And looking at that belly makes me wonder if they serve beer at his Popeyes as well.
Regardless, I'm still of the opinion that T-Pain's newest tattoo should be placed in the "what were you thinking category". But at least he isn't this guy.
I guess this what everyone is talking about when I hear the term "truth in advertising".

Blanton Art Museum
Dixi and I have many things in common. One of those things is both of our birthdays arriving in October. And they arrive year after year after year. Without fail. You could mark it on a calendar.
One of the things I've always been good at when it comes to my wife is the ability to plan things for us to do on her birthday and on our anniversary. So due to the lack of copious amounts of discretionary funds last October, I was hard pressed to come up with something wonderful and memorable to do for her birthday. But I came up with something that I think was pretty amazing. I think Dixi agrees.
Dixi's favorite painter is Claude Monet. We have Monet prints on the walls of the house. She has Monet stationary. Monet calendars. Monet Monet Monet. Which is fine with me since I happen to think his art is very pleasing. So over the years some of those things, like the stationary and calendars, have been purchased by me for Dixi. But I lucked out the past October 2nd.
The Blanton Art Museum at the University of Texas had a showing titled "Turner to Monet: Masterpieces from the Walters Art Museum". We actually got to see, with our own eyes, two Monet paintings. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures of the actual picture due to security reasons and such. But it was truely a once in a lifetime kind of experience for the two of us. Something about being able to be that close to such a work of art is beyond words. We also took the time to walk through the rest of the exhibits that were on display and found lots of other interesting items that we were able to take pictures of. Please forgive my photographic skills, as they aren't the best but I hope that I'm improving. Below you will find a slide show containing pictures of some wonderful works of art from the Blanton Art Museum. Enjoy.

Shoe Fetish
Dixi and I have a shoe fetish. Notice that I included myself in that. My fetish just isn't quite as strong as hers.
These are usually lined up on the floor of the bedroom. She says it's because these are the ones that she wears on a regular basis. In actuality it's because we have no more room on the floor in the bedroom closet. And this is just one spot of the bedroom floor. There's another spot in the bedroom where there's more shoes lined up all nice and pretty. And lets not forget about the pair of Doc Marten sandals underneath the little stool next to the jewelry box. Or the cute little flip-flops that she wears around the house next to those.
But Dixi isn't to blame entirely on her own here. I'm just as guilty when it comes to shoes. The majority of the shoes in that picture up there I actually bought for her. I enjoy getting shoes for Dixi. But I also enjoy buying shoes for myself. It's just that I've figured out how to buy shoes for me without incurring the wrath of Dixi. And the secret is to buy her a pair or three when I buy a pair for myself.
And that's how these shoes came to be living in our home this past week.
That pair over there on the right? Yeah. The brown ones. Those are mine. Found them on eBay a couple of weeks ago and won the bid for them. But at the same time, I found THREE pairs for Dixi on eBay as well. All told, we (I) spent less than $60 for all of them. Of course, there were probably another 4 pair that Dixi just "had to have" but common sense did prevail and we settled on these 4 pair.
I've got another pair that I have my eye on, but I probably won't bid on any right now.
Not because I wouldn't like to have them, but because I haven't found any for Dixi to even it out.

Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic - Smooth Criminal
Back in 1996 I came across a CD that I immediately bought. It was a group called Apocalyptica and the album was Apocalyptica: Plays Metallica by Four Cellos. "Wherever I May Roam" and "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" soon became my two favorite tracks on the CD. After that, I really haven't heard much more about people playing more mainstream music in this way.
That is, until the last couple of days.
Last week I was watching the Today show. They had David Garrett as a guest. He played a "rock" version of Beethoven's Fifth, complete with guitarist, bass player and drummer.
Here's a video of David Garrett on the Today Show from this past Friday. My apologies for the poor quality, but it's all I could find.
That got me thinking about Apolyptica again. And then today I came across the video below. This one is Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic doing Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal". I think guys like these are "rock stars" in their own way.
I was never a huge fan of Michael Jackson, but I did enjoy a few of his tunes, "Smooth Criminal" being one of them. That being said, I really enjoyed this rendition.

The Swagger Wagon
Ummm. Yeah. Swagger Wagon. Uh-huh.
Dixi and I are car people. Always have been. We've owned some pretty nice vehicles over the years. She's driven a New Beetle Convertible. A 4 wheel drive Suburban, lifted up with off road wheels and tires, Ranch Hand brushguard, and dual exhaust. A Jaguar XJ6. We've added our own touches to these vehicles. We go to car shows whenever we find one. We will interrupt each other to point out a car no matter where we are at or what the topic is. It's part of who we are and just one of the many things we have in common.
But no matter how you package it, a minivan is a minivan is a minivan. No way will they ever be hip or cool.
Even when they're being advertised like this.
But it is fun to watch.

Our Sundays. Usually.
This is generally what we do on Sunday mornings. A big pot of coffee. And breakfast tacos. We prefer them on corn tortillas though. We also like them with some salsa ranch dressing and chopped green onion.
We generally spend the rest of the day doing things around the house. Laundry and such. Watching movies because we generally can't find much worth watching on TV during the day. Today, though, we'll be watching the playoff games. Green Bay and Chicago. Jets and Steelers. We're pulling for Green Bay and the Jets. Dixi had hard time deciding between the Jets and Steelers.
She has a thing for Terry Bradshaw. She can't see him without commenting about his naked butt in the movie Failure to Launch. There are times that I can walk into the room and Dixi is talking to Terry on the TV, telling him how cute she thinks he is and about the cuteness of his butt.
Dixi does keep life interesting.

17 Things You Didn't Know About "Seinfeld"
I loved Seinfeld. Dixi kinda came around to it over time. I think the "Hellloooooo" episode, the "Shrinkage" episode and the "You're so good looking" episode are the 3 most remembered in our household.

A First Post
Hmmm. What to say here. I have a few thoughts on things to write about, but I can't decide if I should just jump right into it, or maybe give some background on Arguendo and Dixi.
Let me just start in with how our morning started.
I generally drive Dixi to work. It gives me a reason to get out of the house and, to be honest, I enjoy taking her and picking her up. Dixi works for a state agency and has the luxury of choosing her hours. So we typically have her at work at 6:00am. But with the holiday this past week she doesn't have the ability to work overtime, so she's been going in at 7:00am instead.
This morning we're headed to her office. The speed limit on this particular stretch of road is 45 mph. I regularly drive the speed limit and I fully expect others on the road to drive it as well. If they don't feel like doing that, then my feeling is that they should move to the right and let the rest of us by.
That didn't happen this morning. Nope. This morning, I got behind the guy going 30 in the left lane, while there was another vehicle in the right lane doing about the same. The jerk in front of me decided to keep pace with the vehicle to his right. So for about 8 miles I got to follow behind this idiot as he blocked me and backed up traffic behind me. Dixi calls these people Self Appointed Traffic Regulators.
You've seen them. They do the exact same thing this guy did. They do it on one lane roads. They do it on major highways. They're the waste of space the keeps side by side with the vehicle to their right and keeps everyone behind them cussing and screaming.
I told Dixi that next time, I'm seriously thinking I'm just gonna give one of them a little bump. Get their attention.
After all, our vehicle is paid for. We have insurance.
I'd settle for the ticket.
